1. Tubing connection
Tubing connection is a common pneumatic connection method for pressure sensors. You need to match the tubing to the sensor’s application scenario to ensure it meets the required operating temperature range and working pressure. Depending on the working pressure range and temperature, you can choose appropriate tubing types (silicone tubing or vinyl tubing).
For example, silicone tubing is usually the easiest to connect, but its working pressure is lower than that of some other materials. The lower the tubing’s Shore hardness, the easier it is to fit onto the sensor’s pressure port — but the lower the Shore hardness, the lower the working pressure the tubing can withstand. When the working pressure is 20 psi or below, silicone or vinyl tubing is typically chosen; if the pressure exceeds 20 psi, you might consider using low-density polyethylene tubing.
Recommended tubing types for basic board-mounted pressure sensors. In general, when the working pressure is ≤ 15 psi, fittings or clamps are normally not required. However, because application scenarios vary, you must judge whether clamps are needed in your specific case to ensure the tubing remains secure and leak-free. Factors to consider include vibration, sudden pressure changes, and the type of tubing used. A common fixing method is to use plastic cable ties — these are widely available at hardware stores, come in various sizes, are easy to install and can hold the tubing in place long-term.
Before fitting the tubing onto the port, you may choose to apply a small amount of epoxy resin to the pressure port, or seal the tubing end after it is in place. This kind of sealing both secures the tubing and acts as a sealant to ensure a complete seal between the pressure port and the tubing. Room-temperature-curing sealants are commonly used for this purpose. Take special care that epoxy does not block the port openings — the port must remain unobstructed.
To achieve a firmer connection between the tubing and the port, you can use a low-power hot-air gun to apply gentle heat to the tubing. Once it cools, the tubing will fit more tightly against the pressure port.

2. O-ring manifold design
O-rings can also be used for pneumatic connections to sensors. Most O-ring manufacturers recommend a compression of 20–25% to ensure ideal O-ring squeeze across the temperature range. Silicone or fluorosilicone O-rings are widely used because they deform less than many other O-ring materials when the temperature changes. When choosing the O-ring base polymer, the two most critical parameters are the system’s operating temperature and compatibility with the sealing medium.
For more demanding applications, a second O-ring seal can be used; the seal heights are 3.6 mm for the VN pressure port and 4.55 mm for the SN pressure port.

Tubing connections are widely used in low to medium pressure applications because they are simple, low cost and flexible; however, selection must consider tubing material, Shore hardness, working pressure, temperature and vibration, and clamps or sealants should be applied where necessary to prevent leakage. O-ring manifold designs are better suited to applications requiring higher sealing reliability and environmental resilience; their success depends on controlling the compression ratio and selecting a base polymer compatible with the operating temperature and sealing medium.
